Our Story
Dead Hand Club was born in Dallas after one too many searches for mahjong merch that felt a little too polished, a little too precious, and not nearly enough like the people we actually wanted to play with.
We were tired of the perfect-hostess version of mahjong. The country-club cosplay. The pressure to make everything polished, proper, and picture-perfect. We love a good tablescape — we just don’t think you need a dress code, the right zip code, or a flawlessly curated table to belong at one.
That version of mahjong is fine if it’s your thing. It just wasn’t ours.
We wanted something for the players who show up in jeans and a T-shirt, bring a little edge to the table, laugh when the Charleston goes completely sideways, and care a lot more about the people around the table than looking like we stepped out of a photo shoot.
So we made it.
Dead Hand Club is mahjong apparel for the misfits, the outsiders, the rule-breakers, and the slightly feral. It’s for the players who know the rules but don’t take themselves too seriously. The ones who appreciate a good hand, a bad joke, a questionable pass, and a shirt that says what everyone at the table is already thinking.
The name comes from one of those moments every player knows: the dead hand. The hand that’s officially done for, even if you’re still sitting there holding the tiles. We figured if mahjong was going to humble us anyway, we might as well make a club out of it.
Dead Hand Club is starting with apparel, but the idea is bigger than shirts. It’s about making room for a version of mahjong that feels less polished, less pretentious, and a lot more like real life.
Come as you are.
